TRIBUNJATIM.COM, BANYUWANGI – Banyuwangi Regent, Ipuk Fiestiandani, continues to strive for farmers in Banyuwangi to reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers, slowly switching to organic fertilizer.

In each Ngantor Regent's program in the Village (Village Flowers), Ipuk Fiestiandani always meets farmer groups and encourages farmers to use organic farming systems.

Now many farmer groups produce their own organic fertilizer, by utilizing organic waste in the surrounding environment.

Like the farmers in Rogojampi District, succeeded in producing Potassium Nitrogen Fertilizer (NPK) liquid originating from kitchen waste, like pineapple skin, soy bean skin, and others.

“I am happy that many farmer groups in Banyuwangi are slowly switching to organic fertilizer. Previously there was a farmer group that used sheep manure, goat, as well as cows, which is processed into organic liquid fertilizer,” said Ipuk Fiestiandani when visiting the Agricultural Extension Center (BPP) Rogojampi, on the sidelines of the Bunga Desa program, in Lemahbangdewo Village, Rogojampi, Banyuwangi, Thursday (4/7/2024).

In each Bunga Desa program, Ipuk always makes time to meet farmer groups, to find out the problems of farmers and discuss solutions.

At every meeting, Farmers always raise the issue of fertilizer

That's why, Ipuk continues to encourage farmer groups to produce their own organic fertilizer, as has been done in many villages.

Ipuk said, Easy to make organic fertilizer, because many of the ingredients are found in the surrounding environment.

Many farmer groups in Banyuwangi have successfully implemented the use of organic fertilizer, even has certification.

With organic fertilizer, besides being able to reduce production costs, also able to increase farmer production, as well as more fertilizing the soil.

“Because of that, I asked the Department of Agriculture and farmer extension workers, to continue providing assistance and training, so that farmers can produce and switch to organic fertilizer, ” clearly.

Added BPP Rogojampi coordinator, Feby Cahayaningrum, routinely conduct training on making organic fertilizer at 20 villages in two sub-districts, namely Rogojampi and Blimbingsari, which is their work area.

“Currently, many farmers are reducing doses or even completely switching from chemical fertilizers to organic fertilizers. There are even three farmer groups that have received organic certification, Feby said.

Feby said, with organic use, can reduce 30 until 50 percent of farmers' production costs, so that farmers' profits also increase.
